UMT 4TH JULY 2007

UNIVERSITY MALAYSIA TERENGGANU

This was the first outstation gig held at Terengganu, a 6 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. The crew along with the ICOM band were travelling in a coach, (a pretty comfortable coach) which took about 8 hours altogether with stops along the way. Band members slept, staff watched movies on their laptops, and as usual yawns, giggles and jokes cracked by various members of the troupe occupied the time spent on the bus as it hopped along at snail's pace. Any ride in a group is always fun and interesting but half way, fatigue enters the body and the mind starts to take it slow. Lunch was taken at a mamak on the way to Pahang, where everyone ate to mamak's content and were set for the remaining leg of the journey. Entering Terengganu was interesting as any sight of the sea was a delightful spectacle for the crew to start dreaming.

As the bus ambles...

Reaching the hotel, the crew checked in only for a short refreshing session before they headed for setup in the late evening. Setup carried on for a few hours before the ICOM band could finally have its sound check and then the crew left for the hotel only to get a few hours of rest before they got back to the venue for the participants' sound check.

SETUP TIME

Is it the wheel or me???

Setup as the moon lingers above the truck

And the speakers should have come tumbling down???

The bands seem excited to perform and made sure they secured a spot in the finals. There were lots of musical events put on by the university which did get the crowd all excited and energetic. The ICOM band with Thomas on vocals made sure he got the crowd involved with his train-tracking maneuvers.

And the stage manager wondering 'how like that?'

Thomas ensuring the crowd hops on the wagon

...I like these faders!

While they sang...

A hard day's work and no star banquet??? cannot cannot!

All in all, it was quite an interesting gig- exciting and as always, tiresome but the finale was a scrumptious sea food dinner by the sea which was a well-deserved one! The crew and the band had a good time throughout the two days.

There's nothing like a grand hip finale!
